One Community

A spinal cord injury doesn’t just affect the individual: it impacts their family, friends, colleagues and community. True strength in rehab comes from the support of an injured person’s network which is why this year’s Step Up Challenge is inviting those vital supporters behind our clients to join their loved one to complete the Challenge together.

The Step Up Challenge fundraiser is our community’s way of Paying it Forward to safeguard our Step Up Scheme which gives newly injured people six free one-hour rehabilitation sessions.

It costs Neurokinex £500 to provide each Step Up Scheme place. As a charity, we rely on fundraising to ensure that newly injured people can access this specialist therapy when they need it most. Each year, people who previously benefitted from our scheme seek sponsorship to complete the Step Up Challenge to fund the same opportunity for someone else.

Three Challenges

This year’s Step Up Challenge will unfold in three stages.

1

STAGE ONE
The First Light Challenge
4th - 11th September

One of our Directors, Jo Godfrey, will undertake an epic, 8-day 269km (167 mile) walk connecting all three Neurokinex centres. Setting off from Bristol on Friday September 4, she will head to Hemel Hempstead to arrive on Wednesday September 9 before completing the challenge at Gatwick on Friday September 11.

2

STAGE TWO
The Daylight Challenge
7th - 11th September

Together, Neurokinex clients will aim to cover that same 269km distance during their rehab sessions – pushing, walking, rowing and cycling as one community.

Undertaking more manageable 3k, 5k or 10k distances, they will collectively cover the distance to match Jo’s effort.

3

STAGE THREE
The Twilight Runway Challenge
12th September

The 2026 Step Up Challenge will culminate in a big team effort at the Twilight Runway Challenge at Blackbushe Airport, Hampshire. Team members will be challenged to cover 3km, 5km or 10km by pushing, walking, cycling or scooting along the runway.

This is the best opportunity for family and friends to show their support on the runway or on the sidelines.

As the sun goes down, our amazing Neurokinex community will bring this year’s Step Up Challenge over the finish line.

ONE £25,000 GOAL

We need to raise £25,000 to safeguard the Step Up Scheme for this year
