Pride in our partners
Neurokinex works in close partnership with a number of like-minded organisations that share our values and ethos. Collaborating with others and sharing best practice helps to advance our collective work and bring us closer to our shared goal of improving the prospects for people living with paralysis.

Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation- NeuroRecovery Network

Neurokinex was chosen as the first international NeuroRecovery Community Fitness and Wellness Affiliate of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation in 2016.

The Reeve Foundation NRN is a cooperative network of cutting-edge rehabilitation sites designed to develop and deliver therapies that promote functional recovery to improve the health and quality of life for people living with paralysis.

The NRN was originally conceived by Christopher Reeve who believed the way forward for rehabilitation from spinal cord injury was to provide activity-based therapies that promote functional recovery. By combining technological advancements with scientific knowledge, the NRN is able to broaden its understanding of neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to form new neural connections to compensate for injury.

Until now, people living with spinal cord injury and neurological impairments wishing to access therapies offered by the NRN had to travel to the US. Now that Neurokinex is approved to deliver the ground-breaking protocols, people in the UK and Europe have access to this cutting-edge technology and equipment much closer to home.

Neurokinex delivers two NRN protocols – Locomotor Training and Wide-Pulse Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (WPS)– and have clients travelling from far and wide to access these therapies.

As well as delivering these unique activity-based interventions, Neurokinex works closely with the NRN to measure outcomes and share relevant data to continue its ongoing research into advancing treatment and results for people with spinal cord injury.

Spinal Injuries Association (SIA)

The SIA seeks to support, care for and advise the 50,000 people in the UK living with a spinal injury. Its aim is to be the ‘go-to’ place for people affected by spinal cord injury (SCI) and connect them quickly to specialist services, networks and organisations that can help.

Its breadth of work includes: providing support and information to people with a SCI and their families; campaigning for positive change around treatments and therapies and helping those in the SCI community understand their rights and opportunities.

The vast majority of Neurokinex clients connect with the SIA to help them maximise their opportunities and fulfil their potential. Several have become fundraisers, ambassadors and volunteers for the charity. At the same time, Neurokinex is one of the many specialist services recommended by the SIA as they know people referred to us are treated with the same respect, positivity and ‘can do’ attitude.

The SIA was founded in 1974 by Baroness Masham of Ilton, whose main concerns were the lack of specialist medical care available to all newly injured people and the lack of information and advice available to SCI people on leaving hospital. She and the charity have made great progress, but our experience shows their work is far from done. We are honoured to partner with the SIA to support its efforts and further its cause.

Spinal Research

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity that funds medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis. Its vision is to create a world where it is possible to prevent and reverse paralysis, restoring meaningful function lost through spinal cord injury.

The charity raises money to fund research into clinical treatments including vital scientific research such as clinical tools to better understand the injury caused, and for the devastating effects on daily living such as breathing, hand movement plus bladder and bowel control.

The Neurokinex team works closely with Spinal Research through collaborating on joint research programmes. Meanwhile, as part of its network, we strive to help advance its aim to raise awareness around the possibilities for positive change and improvements in the treatment of spinal cord injury.
