Meet Our Patron

Wheelchair Rugby Paralympian Kylie Grimes MBE joins Neurokinex as patron

Neurokinex is immensely proud to welcome triple Paralympian Kylie Grimes MBE as our patron. Kylie’s story is nothing short of inspirational and her journey a testament to the incredible power of resilience and determination.

Kylie’s journey with Neurokinex started after her life took a dramatic turn in 2006 following a spinal cord injury. An athlete, show jumper and aspiring Olympian all her life, Kylie was determined not to let her injury define her future. Through commitment to a range of rehab interventions, including our activity-based rehabilitation techniques, Kylie adapted to life in a wheelchair, regained her fitness and set her sights on new goals.

In just three years, Kylie made a remarkable comeback to competitive sport and is perhaps best known for excelling at Wheelchair Rugby. Not only did she become a Paralympic Champion, she also made history as the first female to win gold in wheelchair rugby at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Her wider dedication to her sport saw Kylie awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours 2022 for her services to wheelchair rugby.

“I want to encourage all newly-inured people to live their best lives possible. Spinal cord injury rehabilitation is hard and is a huge change, but it doesn’t end your life. Instead, it can be a stepping stone to a good life,” shares Kylie. “It’s a dark place for people with spinal cord injuries but there is hope, it will be ok. I want to share my experiences – how crucial Neurokinex is to my journey and the empowerment of marginal gains.”

Kylie’s resilience, passion for sport and dedication to helping others reflect our core values and we are honoured to have her as a patron. We hope her inspiring presence helps to shape the future of many more individuals who come through our doors.

Now retired from elite sport, Kylie is carving out a career as a presenter, sports commentator and public speaker. Please join us in welcoming Kylie Grimes MBE to the Neurokinex community. Her journey reminds us all that with the right support, determination and mindset, anything is possible.
